It’s a sad day for PlayStation fans, as it’s been revealed that the digital storefronts for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita are shutting down. Up until now, they’ve been online, with business running as usual for the older generation of consoles and handhelds, but the tough decision to turn them offline has been made.
As mentioned in the official statement, Sony notes that the call has been made due to updated payment processing standards. Unfortunately, the PS3 and PS Vita aren’t able to support these updates at the level required, leading to the closure of their associated PlayStation Stores.
That said, they’re not shutting down immediately, so you still have time to purchase and download digital titles before the stores go offline for good. With that in mind, here’s when the PS3 and PS Vita online stores close, across all regions.
When Will The PlayStation 3 Store Close?
The PlayStation 3 digital store will begin to close in August 2026 for select regions, though for most of the world, you’ll have until 2027 to make final purchases.
Specific dates haven’t been provided just yet, but PlayStation has given us months as windows for the closures. Latin America and the Middle East suffer first, with the digital store closing this year, whilst the rest of the world has until 2027.

When Will The PS Vita Store Close?
It’s the same story for the PlayStation Vita; the digital store will begin to close in August 2026, with final closures scheduled for July 2027.
There is a great selection of handheld games available and exclusive to the PS Vita. If you still have one collecting dust at home, or never got your hands on the handheld, now might be the perfect opportunity, as you’re on the clock to make some final digital purchases from its PlayStation Store.
