Edward Kenway Voice Actor Returns For Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

You ask many Assassin’s Creed fans who their favorite AC main character is, and they are likely to offer Edward Kenway as an answer, due to the sterling performance of Matt Ryan. Any concerns about the voice actor being replaced for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced have been thrown out quicker than gone-off grog.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze might win the hearts of the majority of AC fans, as will Altair, but you’ve got to admit, Edward Kenway is a badass in his own right. There’s a reason so many Assassin’s Creed fans have been eager for a Black Flag Remake, and it’s good news for you, Edward Kenway fans.

Barely a minute into the leaked Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced presentation, and we’re given a heartwarming greeting by none other than Matt Ryan in the flesh.

Ryan is an accomplished actor across TV and movies, but many remember him as Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag.

As with other Resynced stories we’ve revealed here at Insider Gaming, such as details on the Resynced Collector’s Edition Goodies, the Animus returning in the remake with new moments, and of course, confirmation that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced doesn’t include DLC or Multiplayer, everything has come from a leaked Ubisoft presentation that was sent to us.

We are not at liberty to divulge images or videos from it, but rest assured that Matt Ryan effectively acts as a host and narrator for the showcase—even interacting with a couple of dev members to discuss Resynced’s development and changes!

There are even fascinating snippets of the actor mocapping for the game, and he’s recorded lots of new dialogue, as Resynced offers a lot of new content in addition to the base features you all remember.

Funnily enough, if you cast your mind back, Matt Ryan even hinted at an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake back in June 2025, and the leaked video allegedly had Ubisoft threatening to sue the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag actor over the comment.

It’s fair to say it might not have been Black Flag without Matt Ryan. It’s excellent to know he’s back, so let us know if you’re also excited by leaving a comment on the news and game in general, through our free-to-join Insider Gaming Discord.
