An internal XBOX town hall has been shared online, revealing that the company was in a period of “freefall” before Asha Sharma took over as CEO. However, following a year of major changes, Sharma claims XBOX has now begun to “return to growth” across several areas of the business.
Sharma has been vocal about her strategy since taking the reins at XBOX, with a number of major changes introduced in an effort to put the brand back on an upward trajectory. According to her latest internal comments, those efforts may finally be starting to pay off.
XBOX Was In “Freefall” Before Sharma
The details come from Windows Central, which obtained a transcript of an internal XBOX town hall hosted by Sharma.
During the meeting, Sharma explained that XBOX was struggling before the recent changes, with declines across hours spent on its platforms, new and active players, and overall revenue.
According to Sharma, however, the situation has now started to turn around. She claims XBOX has begun a “return to growth” across multiple areas, which she attributes largely to making the “right decisions to reinvest in the business.”
“We’re making the right decisions to reinvest in the business, after an all time low, we’ve started to return to growth, more than 2 to 3 times what we were, and we expect that continue.”
Sharma also highlighted strong starts for Gears of War: E-Day, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and World of Warcraft Forever, while claiming that positive sentiment surrounding the XBOX brand has increased by 30% over the past year.
It’s certainly an interesting claim given the brutal restructuring XBOX has undergone, with multiple waves of layoffs and studio restructuring hitting the company over the past few months and further cuts reportedly still on the horizon.
The changes have made for an undeniably difficult period for XBOX, but if Sharma’s comments are anything to go by, the company believes the harsh rebuild is beginning to deliver results.
