Xbox has announced that Halo Studios will be moved under Activision as part of new structural changes at the company.
The company-wide announcement will also see hundreds of developers lose their jobs at Halo Studios and other first-party studios it has been revealed.
Halo Studios Under Activision Blizzard
The move will see Activision take on the Halo franchise and the next Halo title, which will be “led by a new, purpose-built team that is separate from ongoing development and plans for Call of Duty. A small team at Halo Studios will continue supporting the Halo community and games in-market.”
Today’s announcement also revealed that hundreds of developers will be made redundant as part of Microsoft’s cost-cutting efforts, which were announced earlier this year. At the time, Microsoft announced it would eliminate 3200 jobs over the current fiscal year, with 1600 eliminated immediately. Several other studios have also been reorganized across Xbox.
In that announcement earlier this year, Amy Coleman, executive vice president and Microsoft’s chief people officer, said, “Decisions like these are never easy, and you have my commitment that we are constantly looking for ways to reduce the need for job eliminations,” says Coleman. “Whenever possible, our priority is to place people into new roles aligned to the company’s highest priorities and greatest areas of opportunity. Over the past year, we have redeployed more than 4,000 employees into new roles, including another 500 this month.”
Halo has had several rough patches since Halo Infinite’s release, with the brand struggling to maintain a strong player base and attract new players to its iconic IP. In October 2024, 343 Industries announced a rebrand of its development studios as Halo Studios to secure its brand identity.
So far, no public information has been released about what Halo Studios is working on next.
