Fortnite Creators Can Soon Make Star Wars Battlefront-Style Islands

Fortnite’s upcoming May 2026 update will let players publish Star Wars-inspired islands in UEFN and Creative.

Chapter 7 Season 2 for Fortnite arrives today, March 19, bringing a showdown between Team Foundation and Team Ice King, and letting players choose their own rewards. But that’s for the battle royale part of the game; another update has also been revealed for UEFN and Fortnite Creative.

Fortnite Players Can Create Star Wars Islands from May 2026

Details of the Fortnite Ecosystem update v40.00 have been shared, revealing that the ability to create Star Wars islands arrives today, March 19, while the ability to publish comes on May 1, 2026.

The developers have provided some island templates to give creators starting points for their experiences, each featuring a different set of assets and setup elements. Check out all the Fortnite Star Wars Islands starter templates below:

  • Tatooine-Inspired Starter Island: Follow the twin suns to the Tatooine-inspired town. Create your next desert theme game with this starter island.
  • Nevarro-Inspired Starter Island: Explore the Nevarro-inspired city. Use the volcanic landscape to start building your next adventure.
  • Hoth-Inspired Starter Island: Get started building with this Hoth-inspired starter island. Take in the icy vista landscape and hidden bases as inspiration for your next experience.
  • Space-Starter Island: Start the adventure in space to build out your galaxy. This template includes an example setup for a hyperspace effect.

Players also have gameplay learning templates to check out that explain how to create custom lightsabers and Force powers using Scene Graph and Verse, how to build large-scale team combat experiences, and how to build narrative-driven and role-playing experiences.

Star Wars Assets That Will Be Included in UEFN & Fortnite Creative

Players will need a lot of assets to deck out their Star Wars islands in Fortnite. You have an option to choose from iconic characters that we have already seen in the game, including Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Chewbacca, The Mandalorian, Princess Leia, Rebel Alliance characters, plus civilians, Stormtroopers, Jawas, rideable Tauntauns, and more.

Regarding weapons, players have 25 of them to choose from in the Star Wars universe, including the Mandalorian Jetpack. Moreover, players can use themed assets from First Order Base, Nevarro City, Outpost Enclave, Resistance Base, Death Star interior, and Republic Outpost. There are also biome assets to choose from to make the islands more immersive, including desert, snow, and volcanic assets.

Fortnite Star Wars Hero Device, Vehicles, and Music

Moving forward, players will have a Hero Device that transforms them into heroes and villains from the Star Wars universe, including Darth Vader, The Mandalorian, Rey Skywalker, Chewbacca, Emperor Palpatine, and Leia Organa, each with unique powers and abilities. A selection of officially licensed Star Wars music will also be available for a limited time. Lastly, vehicles include AATs, N-1 Starfighters, X-wings, and TIE fighters.

Lightsabers, Force Powers, and Devices

Star Wars Islands in Fortnite will feature new Force powers with special gameplay abilities, including protective barriers, healing allies, mind-tricking opponents, casting distractions, and enemy detection. Players can also design custom lightsabers by changing hilts, blade styles, and blade colors.

Regarding devices, Guard Device has been updated to include character-themed hire and dismiss dialogue. Other updated devices include the following changes:

  • Disguise Devices: Now includes a new array of Star Wars characters, including Stormtroopers and Rebel Alliance characters, so you can put your players right in the heart of battle.
  • Conversation Devices: Now features additional weightings for randomized dialogue, so your characters can have more variety.
  • Capture Area Devices: Now includes a neutralize event and the option to hide the device.
  • Player Spawner Devices: Verse implementation of Respawn The Player, where you can set it to the target player or the player and a list of devices to choose the best spawn point.
  • Team Settings and Inventory Devices: Also includes the Verse implementation of Respawn The Player.
