Pragmata Director Reveals Reason Behind Frequent Delays

Pragmata’s constant delays now have a reason behind them, confirms the game’s director.

Revealed in 2020, Pragmata was quite mysterious, being shown during the PlayStation 5’s reveal showcase in a CG trailer. The game went dark for a few years, only coming out to say it would be delayed. Originally slated to release in 2022, it would be pushed to 2023 and then delayed indefinitely after a new trailer that year. This year, the game made a comeback and has a confirmed release date of 2026. Now, we finally have a reason as to why it kept getting delayed, thanks to a recent interview with the director.

Pragmata Was Delayed “Due To Balancing Gameplay”, Says Development Team

In an interview with TheGamer, director Cho Yonghee and producer Naoto Oyama talked to the outlet about Pragmata at Tokyo Game Show 2025. The director revealed that, for the most part, delays occurred due to trying to balance the game’s mechanics to perfection. He said to the outlet:

”It’s a big reason for it [the delay],” Yonghee stated. “There was so much trial and error and back and forth just to see what could land and what works best.”

Elaborating on Yonghee’s comments, Oyama stated:

”Having the two mechanics, Diana’s hacking and Hugo shooting, has been one of the causes for us to put more time into that game,” he said. “We took our time to balance it all out.”

However, its early reveal proved to be a big motivation for the team, as revealed in the interview. Yonghee said to the interviewer:

“Putting the game out there so early served as motivation for us,” Yonghee said. “If we didn’t put that trailer out back then, Pragmata might not be the same game it is today.”

Hopefully, Pragmata won’t see any delays coming up to its 2026 release. The game has been playable at multiple conventions, including Summer Game Fest. Reception towards its action-hacking gameplay has been positive, so the developer’s work seems to be well worth it. Nevertheless, it’s clear Pragmata is one game fans should keep their eye on, especially with Capcom’s track record.
