Dan Houser, former head and co-founder of Rockstar Games, confirmed why we never got Bully 2, despite its popularity and fan demand.
Released in 2006, Bully was quite different from Rockstar’s other venture, Grand Theft Auto. You play as Jimmy, a rebellious teen who makes his way through boarding school to stop bullying. Upon the game’s release, it received loads of praise, as well as controversy, making it one of the decade’s most memorable. Unfortunately, despite the fanfare, a sequel was never made, with rumors existing for years after. Now, we have some insight from then-head of Rockstar Games as to why one didn’t come to fruition.
Dan Houser Confirms Bully 2’s Unfortunate Cancellation Due to Lack of Resources
In an interview, clipped by LegacyKillaHD, with IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey at L.A. Comic Con, Dan Houser spoke on the reason why Bully 2 never happened. When asked, the co-founder of Rockstar Games said the following:
“I think it was just bandwidth issues,” states Houser. “If you got a small lead creative and a small senior leadership crew, you just can’t do all the projects you want.”
The former head, who co-founded Rockstar Games with brother Sam Houser, left the company in 2020. Since then, he started Absurd Ventures, a multimedia company currently working on various projects like animations and video games. Meanwhile, since Houser’s departure, Rockstar Games has been working on the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, set to release May 26th, 2026. Unfortunately, it may be some time before we see Jimmy and the gang of Bully anytime soon. Still, with its 20th anniversary next year, perhaps a remaster or remake could be in the works, but only time will tell.
