Capcom‘s latest financial earnings have revealed that the publisher’s Steam revenue increased by a staggering 61% in its last financial year.
First spotted by GameBiz, Capcom’s Steam revenue has slowly been rising for the past four years. However, last financial year was a particular success with the publisher seeing a surge of 61%, contributing 31.1% of total revenue, up from 21.5% the previous year.
PlayStation revenue decreased YoY, though, equating to less than 10% of total revenue.
Wild Revenue Growth
As for why Capcom has seen significant growth on Steam, it’s almost certainly because of the release of Monster Hunter Wilds, which accumulated nearly 1.4 million concurrent players in its launch week.
Despite the game releasing after the fiscal year, the game’s pre-orders were high enough to skyrocket Capcom’s revenue. The number of PC sales was 28,211,000, up 30% from 21,604,000 in the previous fiscal year.
It has not all been sunshine and rainbows for Monster Hunter Wilds, though, as after the game’s initial launch, fans have criticized the game for its lack of patches and bug fixes.
The game received the ‘Overwhelmingly Negative‘ category in the recent reviews section on Steam, with the All Reviews section being labelled as Mixed.
“This game is a mess. It is horribly optimized. There are not that many new monsters or fun fights. The movesets are BORING and it all just feels like a gimmick,” said one player. Another user added: “Doesn’t run even semi well at 1080p, 30 FPS. Crashes my entire PC. It’s a scam and it’s sad.”
However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Monster Hunter Wilds fans, as a recent patch for the game was released just a few days ago, as of the time of writing.
