Borderlands 4‘s player count, on Steam at least, has skyrocketed in the last day. It is sitting at lofty heights not seen since a few weeks after the game came out last year, but why is that?
Well, on Steam, the game is undergoing a free weekend, which is enough to bring players flocking to the enormous, open-world shooter. It also helps that Gearbox has just added a new DLC character to the game called ‘Loveless’, and yes, she has been accused of being gooner bait.
Loveless the Hacker Turns Heads in Borderlands 4
When numbers are dropping, nothing revitalizes a game like something in the form of a thirst trap. That’s Loveless the Hacker, the latest Vault Hunter added to Borderlands 4, the 2025 shooter that launched in September last year to a relatively mixed reception.
The ‘mayhem-filled looter-shooter’ hasn’t done so well in the player count stats since hitting the market, launching to a peak (on Steam) of 304,000 users and then settling at around 15,000 or so within six or seven weeks. If you look at the peak concurrent user counts the game was hitting a few weeks back, you’d see it floating around 2,400 or so.

Today, the peak has risen to more than 20,000, marking the single-biggest one-day spike the game has experienced since release.
Let’s talk about Loveless.
Loveless is described as being a ‘superior lifeform’, a cybernetically-enhanced fighter with a split psyche. She relies on all-out aggression and agility to take down enemies big and small, but it’s her cosmetics that are convincing gamers everywhere to part ways with $9.99.
If you purchase the Ornate Order Pack, or if you have it as part of the Super Deluxe Edition and the Vault Hunter Pack, you’ll get an exclusive skin that leaves almost nothing to the imagination. It’s a super revealing outfit that will have the average gamer weak in the knees.
