Seasonal Changes in Forza Horizon 6 Bring ‘Dramatic’ Changes to Japan Setting

Seasonal changes to the world are confirmed to be returning in Forza Horizon 6, marking a third appearance for the feature, which will result in “dramatic” changes to the setting of Japan.

Japan was announced as the location for Forza Horizon 6, launching in 2026, following on from leaks that suggested the franchise would be heading to the Far East.

Now set for a sixth iteration, the Forza Horizon franchise has grown significantly over the years, and the next level of seasonal changes to the map will be seen in Forza Horizon 6.

While Horizon fans will have become accustomed to the changing world with seasonal changes, which first appeared in Forza Horizon 4 when the franchise headed to British shores, the changes will seemingly be deeper than just visual and environmental tweaks.

Speaking to Xbox Wire, art director Don Arceta described the seasonal changes as having a “dramatic impact on the landscape and playable world,” though they will “also hold a deeper cultural meaning for the country and its culture,” changing how the world feels.

Seasonal changes will see environments “subtly shift tone, activity, and sound,” with “ambient audio like station chimes or summer wind bells that instantly place you without a caption.”

This attention to detail and culture comes amid a deeper dive into the authenticity of Japan, aided by cultural consultant Kyoko Yamashita, who explained how the team wants to “present more than a postcard or a backdrop,” instead wanting a “lived-in world.”

Yamashita’s role as cultural consultant helped detail the environment, like the sounds of neighbourhoods and “what a sign color communicates about a shop,” with the “small choices” adding up to “credibility and help avoid stereotypes, while also making it a truly immersive experience for players.”

Players will see a first look at gameplay in early 2026, before a launch later in the year. Historically, Forza Horizon titles have launched between September to November, with it expected a similar release window will be set.
