Xbox and PC gamers are gearing up for a busy period full of huge releases in 2026, including the planned release of Playground Games’ Fable revival, but rumors of the title being delayed again have begun to spread.
First revealed in 2020, Playground Games’ development of a revival to the Fable franchise has been a long, and often bumpy, road, having initially been slated for a 2025 release before being pushed back to this year.

Has Fable Been Delayed?
There has been no official word of Fable games being hit with another delay, although rumors that the launch has been pushed internally by Playground Games have begun to spread.
Jeff Grubb has claimed that the title has been “pushed internally,” but it doesn’t necessarily mean Fable won’t be released in 2026. However, if true, players will have to wait slightly longer for the full release.

Fable was most recently shown during January’s Xbox Developer Direct, with a release window of 2026. It was noted that the game is planned for release in Fall 2026, so launching later in the year could still result in Fable matching this broad release calendar.
Still, the official Fable account on X looks to have ruled out any delay, responding to excitement for the game by reaffirming the Autumn 2026 release window.
When Will Playground Games Release Fable?
At this moment, there is no official update to Playground Games’ release plans for Fable, with the latest shared being a Fall 2026 release.
This broad release window does allow for Playground Games to push the game internally, but still meet the release window shared. Given that Fable has already seen delays to its planned launch, the preference will surely be to avoid another big delay.
Although far from an official statement, the reaffirmation on social media of the Autumn 2026 release window is likely a subtle way of responding to the rumors.

A push back to 2027 would be a huge blow for players, along with Microsoft itself, as Fable is one of the biggest partner games on the horizon in 2026, alongside the likes of the Halo: Combat Evolved remake, Gears of War: E-Day, and Forza Horizon 6.
For now, news of a delay remains a rumour, but plenty of eyes will be on Playground Games for any official updates on the release front.
