Windrose is ready to bring the pirate fantasy to life, but a core part of that is assembling your hearty crew. Who better to join you aboard your ship than your best pals, but is that possible in Windrose?
When the concept of Windrose was first conceived, the game was originally planned to be an open-world MMO, where online multiplayer was at the core of the experience. However, some huge changes to the development plan have been made since then, with the title shifting to a more narrative experience.
Does that mean that multiplayer is entirely out of the window for Windrose? There’s hope yet, as Insider Gaming has the answers below.
Does Windrose Have Multiplayer?
Gather your friends, as Windrose does offer multiplayer, with up to four players being able to form a crew and tackle the entirety of the game together.
It might not be the massive multiplayer experience that some may have hoped for, but despite the game’s shift to a more narrative experience, the Windrose Crew still made sure to keep multiplayer viable for the player base.

This feature comes fully supported with both self-hosted and dedicated servers, so you can even join other players’ servers if you’d so wish! And, if you want to play in numerous games but don’t want to lose your character’s progress, worry not, as you can carry over your progress between worlds.
Does Windrose Have Co-Op?
Windrose’s multiplayer capacities are strictly online co-op, meaning you can’t team up with friends locally, and you can’t fight one another in opposing vessels.
It’s not all too surprising, with many games ditching local multiplayer in favour of online modes instead, but it does make more sense with Windrose due to its complexity and PC exclusivity.

However, even if you’re playing online, you’ll be restricted to co-op, as you won’t be able to fight against your friends. Instead, you’ll be forced to work together, so unless your buddy agrees, you can’t make them walk the plank—even if they deserve it.
