Take-Two CEO Says he Would be Shocked if GTA 6 is Delayed Again

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained the reasoning behind the initial GTA 6 delay and reminded fans that Rockstar Games has a good history of meeting release date goals.

GTA 6 finally has an official release date, but instead of 2025, the game was pushed back to May 26, 2026. Despite the disappointing news, the second trailer shattered expectations and quickly hit half a billion views across all platforms. Rockstar also revealed over 70 screenshots, giving players a better feel for the characters and locations.

In saying that, fans feared that GTA 6 might potentially be delayed again after industry expert and analyst Jason Schreier warned, “There’s no guarantee that May 2026 is a sure thing.“ Take-Two’s CEO stepped forward and reassured concerned fans.

In an interview with IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said, “I think historically when we set a specific date, generally speaking, we’ve been very good about reaching it.”

And as for why GTA 6 was delayed: “As we get closer to completion of a title that’s seeking perfection, the needs or lack thereof, for continued polish become clear,” Zelnick said. “In this case, there was an opportunity with a small amount of incremental time, we thought, to make sure Rockstar Games achieves its creative vision with no limitations. And I supported, of course, that approach.”

Zelnick didn’t outright confirm that the game won’t be delayed again, but his confidence should help fans who were starting to lose hope rest a little easier.
