Rockstar Games has delivered a hammer blow to all GTA fans by announcing that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been pushed back to May 26, 2026.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is probably the biggest video game ever. In terms of anticipation, impact on the games industry, and how much money it’s expected to make. GTA 5 was the most successful individual piece of media in history, and all suggestions indicate GTA 6 will do the same.
We’ve all been hoping for a 2025 release date for GTA 6. Recent updates and even the Borderlands 4 release being pushed back have indicated a 2025 release could still happen. However, Rockstar Games has firmly slammed the door shut on 2025.
GTA 6 Releases May 26, 2026

In a May 2 news post, Rockstar Games had an announcement for the world.
“Hi everyone,
Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.
We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.
We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.
Sincerely,
Rockstar Games.”
The disappointment and sadness are palpable in the gaming community—yours truly included. On one hand, we finally have a GTA 6 release date we can start counting down the hours to. Unfortunately, it’s not this year, which means the wait for the next GTA game goes on.
Here’s hoping we get GTA 6 Trailer 2 sooner rather than later to ease the pain. This is a rhetorical question, but are you disappointed by the news? Let us know in the Insider Gaming forum. Also, let us know which 2025 games will fill the void.
This is one of (if not the biggest) stories of 2025, but the media doesn’t stop with GTA 6. We have other big stories, including news on the Deadlock open beta date, and Xbox raising the prices of games in 2025.

So the CEO lied to shareholders they need to sue. Anyway everyone holding back on titles need to announce now for Q4 or more so next year and 2027 they all held back
