EA is More Optimistic About Battlefield Now That GTA 6 Has Been Delayed

Electronic Arts is on the cusp of revealing the next Battlefield game in full following weeks of tests (that have been leaked to no end). For a while, developers and publishers everywhere were on the edges of their seats awaiting some news about the release date for GTA 6, with some putting their own announcements on hold to see when the open-world Rockstar epic would be released.

Now that the date has been unveiled (May 26, 2026), many are breathing a little easier, including Electronic Arts. In a recent financial update, the team reaffirmed that the next Battlefield title will be released in FY 26, before GTA 6 hits the market.

The company’s CEO wasted no time stressing how much more comfortable that makes them feel.

Confirmation

GTA 6 had a stranglehold on the industry for a while, with nobody wanting to reveal a game with a release date set for Fall 2025, the original release window for the game.

Things are a little clearer now that we have a specific date for Grand Theft Auto 6, and that’s pleasing some developers already.

During the recent financial update, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson fielded a question about the wider impact of GTA 6’s delay. While he wasn’t willing to assume how other companies were feeling, he did explain:

If you weren’t already ready to launch in this window, it may be hard to get ready and take advantage of what might be otherwise a less competitive window than we may have anticipated earlier.

In a follow-up statement, Wilson admitted:

I think now, without going too far, we believe that window is clearer than it was before, and we feel very good about launching Battlefield in FY 26.

(Thanks to PC Gamer for the quote)

He also stressed that the massive team working on the next Battlefield title wouldn’t want to leap head over heels into a release window that ‘truncated the value’ they’ve built up for so long. This game is the culmination of several studios’ work over a few years, and it’s a make-or-break release for the Battlefield franchise.

Given how testing is being scaled up and made more global, and the Fall to Winter period is clear for 2025 – 2026, it’s a fair assumption that we might see Battlefield before this year closes out.
