The LA Thieves have lifted a Call of Duty League trophy for the first time since Major IV in the 2023 season. This win was a long time coming, and it was secured in an epic fashion, with LAT sweeping Vancouver Surge in the GF in Boca Raton, Florida.
The win for LA Thieves wasn’t even close, with the team showing utter dominance over a strong Surge side. The final maps of Control and Hardpoint were a wash, with LAT hitting 3-0 and 250-134, respectively.
This win came after a weekend of non-stop, high-performance playing from the squad.
Perfect Finish
LAT had one hell of a weekend in Boca Raton. They wiped the Carolina Royal Ravens and Miami Heretics off the board before sending Surge into the lower bracket. Surge then handled a resilient Toronto Ultra before returning to the GF to take another helping of disappointment from the Thieves.
This is the first CDL trophy the LA Thieves have lifted on a stage since 2023, and it’s well deserved. In the weeks leading up to Major III in Florida, the LA Thieves have been white hot in their momentum.
Elsewhere in the tournament, we saw OpTic Texas get bodied by Atlanta FaZe in the elimination bracket after being forced down by Boston Breach. FaZe then succumbed to the Miami Heretics, a stellar team this weekend that tried leveraging a home-side buff.
LAG M8, Falcons, and Cloud9 all went home without winning a map. That was a shock for the Vegas Falcons, which recently revitalised the core roster in a bid to avoid situations like that unfolding. Harrowingly, the loss that took Pred out of the Major III running came at the hands of OpTic Texas, the team that dropped him mere weeks ago.
CDL fans now look to Major IV, a historic event that will take place at DreamHack Dallas, one of the biggest gaming conventions in the world.
Beyond that, we’ve got CDL Champs in Canada from June 26 – stay tuned.
