LoL Patch 26.9 Preview: On-hit Statikk Shiv is Coming

Riot Games has released a preview for League of Legends (LoL) Patch 26.9 with a lot of changes coming to the MOBA.

And with it, Riot is seemingly going ahead and releasing the broken reworked Statikk Shiv with on-hit lightning.

Matt ‘Phroxzon’ Leung-Harrison admits “it’s possible this may not be sustainable in the long term,” but says the publishing is deciding to release it anyway as “pushing the frontier of innovation also carries some risk, so we want to see where it goes.”

The newly reworked item leads to broken combinations, such as Braum proccing his passive on multiple targets from one auto and Senna getting copious amounts of stacks.

However, Riot has updated the item to slightly, “We’ve made some changes to remove Staikk Shiv’s on-hit lightning also impacting the primary target (so it will only apply off the initial attack,” Phroxzon explained.

Phroxzon Previews LoL Patch 26.9

Phroxzon posted the usual graphic with the planned changes and revealed that Rio is planning big changes in hopes of adding more excitement to the game.

“When approaching 26.9, we were thinking a lot about systems and champion spaces that needed satisfaction, strategic distinction and also opportunities to create surface area for excitement and dreaming of what’s possible — The first place we were looking was in enabling certain types of systemic gameplay patterns where they were a little under the mark,” Phroxzon explained.

Phroxzon also noted that two new starter items are being added to the game in Doran’s Helm and Doran’s Shield.

The Rioter explained that Bow is for “greedy lanes” where you have a lot of uptime to make use of the attack speed.

Meanwhile, Doran’s Helm is ” intended to be a situational choice for champions who don’t need the sustain from Doran’s Shield in lane.”

“We’re hoping that these changes allow players to eek out even more advantages in certain lanes and add a little more depth to laning interactions,” Phroxzon added.
