XBOX Job Listing Suggests Discs Aren’t Going Anywhere

A new XBOX job listing has been spotted that includes a line about ‘physical XBOX games.’ With rampant speculation that XBOX could also be planning for a digital future, this job listing could potentially highlight a different outcome.

Digital media hasn’t been this relevant in years, potentially ever. XBOX keeps making different moves and decisions about the future, including surveying users on possible console exclusivity for Minecraft, but whether it follows Sony’s route of eliminating physical media in favor of digital is one thing everyone has been keeping an eye on.

‘Physical XBOX Games’ Mentioned in XBOX Job Role

Microsoft is looking for an ‘XBOX Games Supply Strategist’ to oversee physical XBOX games being launched. The position was posted on October 14, 2026. This shows this is a fairly recent addition and could show where Xbox’s thinking is at.

Here’s more about the job:

‘Microsoft is looking for a motivated & inspiring leader to join the Xbox Supply Chain team, responsible for driving end to end supply chain strategy & performance to enable achievement of the financial & overall category targets for Xbox Games.

The Xbox Games Supply Strategist will coordinate the launch of physical Xbox games across all platforms, lead development & oversee execution of global supply positioning strategies across all stages of the product lifecycle, ensure that inventory is positioned to deliver working capital/cost/service goals, and oversee the sales & channel execution of those games. You’ll work closely with Product Marketing, Finance & various groups within Supply Chain to establish & manage supply and sales plan of record.  Every day will bring a new challenge, and you’ll be continually looking for ways to drive business profitability by planning and executing a predictable, reliable & low-cost supply chain.

A Reddit post about the job claimed that ‘people in another thread were saying this is an existing role that they’re simply trying to fill. It does not instantly mean they’re going all in on discs.’

However, even if this is the case, if XBOX was considering going all-digital, then there’s a good chance that they wouldn’t feel the need to fill the position again. Or, this could be a temporary solution/job, as Microsoft eyes up a long-term transition.

If XBOX went full digital, would that put you off the brand? Let us know your thoughts on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
