Lucasfilm Games says indie studios are part of its Star Wars strategy, with projects large and small and partners that may surprise fans.
Star Wars video games are on a hot streak right now. Star Wars Zero Company and Star Wars Galactic Racer are not only two strong games in the franchise’s catalog, but also well-reviewed titles developed by smaller studios. With mid-80s Metacritic scores, these are two of the highest-rated Star Wars games in 20 years.
Lucasfilm Teases Surprising Partners for Star Wars Games

Speaking to The Games Business, Lucasfilm’s Douglas Reilly says great Star Wars games need no “top-five publisher,” pointing to experienced teams and the right creative ideas.
“You don’t have to necessarily be a top five publisher to make a great Star Wars game,” Reilly said. “We have a high-quality bar, and we want to make sure they’re excellent experiences, and that means typically you work with more experienced teams than, you know, new teams who have no track record of making great things.”
Another Star Wars game in development is Star Wars Eclipse. Developing that game has been challenging. After Quantic Dream decided to discontinue development of Spellcaster Chronicles, Insider Gaming reported that the game’s revenue would help fund the forthcoming Star Wars title. It was also previously reported that development on Eclipse was moving very slowly. Development of Star Wars Eclipse is back on track, according to reports.
