Samson developer Liquid Swords is bankrupt after months of unpaid salaries, Breakit reports. Nearly 30 employees will receive state support. This was Liquid Swords’ first major release, which came out in April this year.
A Breakit report from October 15 noted that the studio, founded by Christofer Sundberg, failed to pay employees for several months, and those affected will now receive state compensation. The report also noted that the bankruptcy trustee hopes to find a buyer.
Samson’s Legacy Is A Mixed Bag of Reviews

Founded by Christofer Sundberg, co-founder of Avalanche Studios and creative lead on Just Cause, Liquid Swords was their only released project. Samson had been in development since at least 2020 and drew inspiration from gritty open-world titles like Max Payne and Grand Theft Auto. Critics and players gave the game mixed reviews, with a 51 Metacritic score and a 5.2 user score on the platform.
The game also has mixed reviews on Steam, with some players complaining about bugs and slow-to-respond controls.
“This game has so many bugs, and the combat is very, very bad. It’s shocking that this game was released in 2026; this would make more sense if it were 2010, maybe. I waited for a few months to replay it again to give it a proper review, and I thought that it would be fixed, but nothing was fixed. Just not worth the time nor the money,” read one of the Steam Reviews.
Other, more positive reviews glowingly praised the game’s atmosphere and its Steam Deck optimization. Still, as it stands, Liquid Swords faces impending bankruptcy, and Samson will be its only release.
