XBOX Surveys Users on Possible Console Exclusivity for Minecraft and More

Microsoft surveyed XBOX users about making future Fallout, Elder Scrolls, DOOM, Diablo, PHYSINT, and Minecraft games XBOX console exclusives.

As the XBOX brand continues its major reset, one key change is a shift in how it views console exclusives. For a brief time, XBOX shifted toward the idea that “everything is an XBOX,” focusing on reaching the broadest possible player base and making several of its franchises playable on all platforms. This led to moves like making Halo: Campaign Evolved playable on the Sony PlayStation 5.

After Asha Sharma took over as CEO, XBOX placed greater emphasis on console exclusivity and made the recently released Gears of War: E-Day and the upcoming Clockwork Revolution title XBOX console exclusives. Now, a new report based on an XBOX Insider survey reveals that XBOX is considering making other top franchises console exclusives as well.

Microsoft Considers XBOX Exclusivity for Fallout, PHYSINT, and More

XBOX hardware may

A new report from Jez Corden of Windows Central cites an XBOX Research survey asking users to imagine a hypothetical world where certain franchises are exclusive, such as Diablo, DOOM, and The Elder Scrolls.

However, there’s also a more extreme option where every future console from an XBOX-developed game franchise, except Call of Duty, would be exclusive.

The survey also suggests a world where, in the case of Minecraft, existing titles would no longer be available for purchase on PlayStation or Nintendo consoles and wouldn’t receive any new content updates on those platforms. Users are also asked whether they would buy an XBOX or switch to PC in this specific scenario.

“Imagine it was announced that all future title releases from every XBOX-developed gaming franchise except Call of Duty will be console-exclusive to XBOX,” the final survey question reads. “For Minecraft only, existing titles would no longer be available for purchase on PlayStation or Nintendo consoles, and would not receive any new content updates. However, there is no impact to any of the existing titles or content you already own. Nothing changes on PC in this announcement.”

XBOX continues to undergo significant changes as it seeks to achieve profitability in fiscal year 2027. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates as more information becomes available. Sound off about this story and all others in our official Discord server.
