Last year, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 dropped to a whirlwind reception, shattering expectations, pulling in millions of players, and going on to be nominated for awards, including at the recent BAFTA Games Awards.
However, now that the game’s final piece of DLC has long since been delivered, fans are wondering what comes next for the franchise, which has been around for almost a decade. During a recent Reddit AMA, the folks at Warhorse Studios, the game’s developer, explained what’s happening.
Hard at Work
The Reddit AMA featuring some prolific folks from Warhorse Studios faced some teething issues, specifically around the recent laying off of a translator, who was later replaced with an AI-driven solution. In the wake of the PR nightmare, the team sought to patch things up with a transparent Q&A, during which they specifically addressed that situation, and many others.
As you can imagine, many questions were levelled at the team concerning Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3, a game that might never come to pass. For a while, it was rumored that Warhorse had pivoted to focus on a Lord of the Rings RPG, but this was later debunked.
In one question, the team was asked if anything else was being delivered for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which had just short of a year of content before being effectively sunsetted. In response, Viktor Höschl, the Head of Art at Warhorse, explained:
No more content planned for KCD2, aside from possible patches. We’re already moving forward.
But to what?
Many questions were met with the same answer from the multiple Warhorse team members overseeing the AMA:
We are of course, hard at work on our next game. But… Like you guessed we can’t tell you much about it, not yet. What I can say though, we’ll be sticking with what we know, RPGs. Don’t expect us to go rogue and make an NBA game!
And in a similar vein, Ondřej Bittner, Content Director, said:
We are hard at work on … something. Obviously we cannot disclose any details but I can share that it is a huge immersive RPG 🙂
That doesn’t confirm or deny if another Kingdom Come game will ever surface, but it seems unlikely. In recent months, the game’s lead actor, Tom McKay, has busied himself soaking up other roles in film and television, while Luke Dale, who plays Hans Capon, has taken up a successful streaming venture, building up his content portfolio online and gaining a mighty following.
