Real high schools across the United States are coming to the world of video games. Insider Gaming can exclusively reveal that Varsity High School Football from Spear Interactive and Pyramid Lake Games has signed a partnership with K12 licensing, a division of the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), that will bring hundreds of real high schools to the game.
For the first time, real schools—identities, logos, and uniforms—will be available to play in the upcoming football game within all modes. Players, due to obvious constraints, are not a part of the deal.
“This partnership has been one of our few final steps in delivering the first true high school football experience in gaming,” Spear Interactive owner Eric Spearin said. “The gaming community has provided us with a lot of support and patience while we put together a partnership of this magnitude. Bringing real schools into the game creates a level of connection for players and fans that hasn’t existed before in sports gaming. We plan to include every school that wants to take part, regardless of size.”
Over 400 schools, Spearin tells Insider Gaming, have already committed to being in the game from around the country. Work is already being done on the design and development of the schools, and they will be announced and shown in the coming months.

There are also plans to reach out to and have other schools send their information to be included in the game. Spear Interactive and K12 already have a form up and running for schools to fill out and submit.
“We are proud to work with the many schools we represent to help bring this game to life, and we look forward to expanding this opportunity to other schools that may want to be in the game,” Brandon Tucker, director of K12 Licensing, said.
Varsity High School Football is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game is set to feature a multi-season dynasty mode, 11 on 11 and 7 on 7 gameplay, full team customization, minicamps, and more. Like the first school announcements, release timing is also expected to be announced in the coming months.
