Take-Two CEO Says Console Players Are Core Consumers for Rockstar

In a new interview, the Take-Two CEO has revealed that Rockstar has gone console-first because console players are the core consumers.

GTA 6 is the most highly anticipated title of the year, and probably the decade as well. However, Rockstar has decided to release the game on consoles first, with PC to follow. The Take-Two CEO spoke about the decision to do so back in 2025, and he has now said that console players are core consumers.

GTA 6’s Console First Release Is Not Because of Reported PlayStation Deal

During an interview with Bloomberg, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed releasing GTA 6 on consoles first. The CEO stated that Rockstar’s initial target is console players, as with a release like GTA 6, the developers will be “judged by serving the core.” Zelnick added that if the core consumer is not “served first and best,” then hitting the other consumers will be an issue.

When asked if the timed console exclusivity for GTA 6 was the result of a marketing deal with PlayStation, the CEO clarified, “No, historically, Rockstar has released games on console first.” The developer also mentioned that when Take-Two was first established, PC players accounted for only 5% of sales of their NBA 2K series. “Now, for a major title, PC sales can account for 45% to 50%,” the CEO stated.

Players are still unaware of how long Rockstar intends to take to release GTA 6 on PC following the console release.

In other news, the Take-Two CEO recently stated that there were no product placement plans for GTA 6. Additionally, the CEO hasn’t committed to the game’s price yet amid rumors of a $100 price tag.
