Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explains why players don’t need to worry about product placement or in-game advertisements in Grand Theft Auto 6. This all comes as the game is on track to release in approximately 6 months.
This subject was addressed during the iicon conference for gaming industry leaders. Overall, Zelnick’s comments assured players and other industry officials that there would be no external tie-ins. The reason for that was largely the vast universe GTA has created and the fictional brands, like Sprunk and Burger Shot, that reside within the game.
Take-Two CEO Feels Fictional Brands Keep GTA 6 ‘Pure’
During his comments at iicon, Strauss Zelnick stated that the fictional brands in GTA 6 will likely serve to keep the game “pure.”
“So in the case of GTA as a property, as you know, it’s a fictional world, and everything in it is fictional,” Zelnick said (via IGN). “So we don’t have, for example, we’re not even at risk of doing brand partnerships because all the brands are made up. I think that keeps us pure.”
Zelnick also emphasized that if product placement is pushed too hard, it could be viewed negatively. He would say, “Everyone knows if you push too hard with partnerships, it’s a disaster.”
