Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has provided an update on Borderlands 4 coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. He says the pause is legitimate and that he’s confident the game will run on the hardware.
The announcement concerning the pause for the Nintendo Switch 2 port of the fourth Borderlands game came from Take-Two Interactive in February. The news was first shared in the quarterly earnings report released at the start of the year. At the time, a spokesperson stated that it was a difficult decision to pause development of the game. Now, brand CEO Strauss Zelnick is providing more insight into why the pause occurred.
Borderlands 4 Steam Optimization Is to Blame for Switch 2 Port Pause
Speaking with Stephen Totilo of Game File, Zelnick admitted that the primary consoles for 2K’s parent company remain the Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox. However, they want to show dedication to any platforms their consumers may choose to play on.
As for the decision to pause Borderlands development, Zelnick says that it is due to the team focusing on improving the Steam version’s technical issues.
“We’ve been addressing those challenges, and we want to make sure that we’ve fully addressed Borderlands 4 from a consumer’s point of view before we bring it to more platforms,” he said before addressing the fact that he believes running the game on the newest Nintendo console is “doable.”
Gearbox previously announced the content coming to Borderlands 4 in 2026. In addition to the already available Photo Mode, story updates, packs, and more features will be available throughout this calendar year. Check out the full roadmap here.
Elsewhere in the interview, Zelnick discussed the scrapped plans for a new NFL 2K game. Read more about that here.
