In a surprise Nintendo Direct on May 6, the new Star Fox game was revealed. Called simply Star Fox, this will be the first New Star Fox game since Star Fox Zero on the Nintendo Wii U
News of this game was first leaked by NateTheHate, and although he had anticipated the April reveal, he was just off by one week.
Star Fox was featured in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. However, none of his team was featured alongside him. Now, Slippy, Peppy, and Falco are returning in this new game, which is based on Star Fox 64 on the Nintendo 64. Players won’t have to wait long for the game. It releases exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25.
Star Fox Completely Reimagined for Switch 2
Even though the game is inspired by Star Fox 64, the new Nintendo Switch 2 title features reimagined designs for all the characters, complete with English voice acting. However, those who desire the true Star Fox 64 experience can play the game with the Nintendo 64 Controller released for the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Speaking of controls, the game will also allow players to use mouse controls, and they can share one of their Joy-Con 2 devices to split piloting and gunning responsibilities. Different elements of the game’s campaign were shown, including the ability to take control of an underwater vehicle. This game will also feature online multiplayer.
Also, game sharing is allowed. So as long as one player has the game, he can share it locally with up to three friends. The preview showed the ability to share on multiple Nintendo Switch devices, including the original and the Nintendo Switch Lite. For those interested, the game supports GameChat and lets players choose different avatars, each with the characteristics of the character they’re playing.
James McCloud’s Story Featured
The presentation ended with a look at the prologue for the game’s campaign mode, which features the apparent demise of Fox McCloud’s father, James McCloud. Fox’s father can be seen telling Peppy Hare to look after his son after Pigma betrays them and aligns with Andross.
The game is not yet available on the American eShop, and no price point was discussed during the presentation. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates as more information becomes available.
