Escape from Tarkov’s Lead Game Designer Departs After Nine Years

In a post on social media, Escape from Tarkov’s former lead game designer, Jean Tyulegenov, announced his departure from Battlestate Games after nine years at the studio. This revelation followed a spate of similar posts from the likes of Dmitry Ogorodnikov and German Terekhov, both of whom parted ways with Battlestate to work on a new venture at Nomion Games.

Tyulegenov simply explained that it’s time to move forward, and in a follow-up comment under his post, a teaser surfaced suggesting where he might be headed next.

Tarkov’s Lead Designer Splits from Battlestate

Jean Tyulegenov’s post on social media was nothing but amicable, thanking Nikita Buyanov, the head of the studio at Battlestate Games, for the years spent together. He wrote:

Thank you, (Nikita), for the exciting challenges and for the incredible project we built together.

I still remember the first quests, the first boss — Reshala, Hideout, the massive Flea Market formulas, every patch, and every sleepless night as if it all happened yesterday. It was a difficult journey, but it was absolutely worth it.

All of it mattered because I got to see millions of players experience the game I helped design. I met so many fans and streamers at events along the way. Thank you all for being there — truly.

Now it’s time to move forward.

In a comment under Tyulegenov’s post, Dmitry Ogorodnikov, former Head of PR at Battlestate Games and now the creative producer and co-founder at Nomion Games, working on Rush is Real, wrote:

ty brother! it was an honor to work with you! Tarkov gained so much from you, and now it’s losing a lot without you. the best is yet to come!

This was seen as a nod to a potential future placement for Tyulegenov, something that was noted by an eagle-eyed fan in another comment.

Last year, Battlestate Games pushed out the 1.0 release of Escape from Tarkov, hitting the most important milestone in the game’s history. It was a monumental step that heralded a new era for the pioneering extraction shooter, but there’s more on the horizon for the title.
