Stellar Blade Director Admits Game’s Story is “Poor,” Wants to Improve This in Sequel

In an honest interview, Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung-tae has discussed the game’s story. The game was widely praised for its lightning combat, impressive visuals, and soundtrack. One area that isn’t as regarded is the game’s story, which is something Shift Up wants to improve.

Stellar Blade is flying on PC in terms of sales and players. A larger audience is getting to enjoy Shift Up’s work. There’s so much to like about the game, which is why it received so many amazing review scores. One consistent detail throughout feedback was aimed at its story, something Shift Up knows is a goal for future games.

In an interview with This Is Game, Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung-tae opened up on various aspects of the game, its PC port, and more. The page has been translated, so each answer might not be perfect and word-for-word accurate.

One of the points made to the director is: “There is also an opinion that the evaluation of the narrative of Stellar Blade was a bit disappointing.”

Here’s what Hyung-tae said in response: “I think it is true that the story is poor. The game’s core gameplay system was completed relatively early, but the cutscenes were the biggest challenge. In action games that take narrative, cutscenes play a very important role in storytelling. It’s because it’s hard to convey all the narratives with action alone. So we had to take the narrative through cutscenes, and at first, we wanted to make a lot of settings and cutscenes.”

The director explained: “The cost of making cutscenes became too high, and we had to inevitably reduce cutscenes that would complement the world view or character narrative, except for the main plot, for efficiency.”

Hyung-tae wraps up his answer by explaining: “If I am given the opportunity to make the next work, I think I will be able to present it with a rich enough narrative at that time.
