Sony Says Supporting PS5 Devs is a ‘Big Investment’ Amid 30% Commission Fee Discussion

Sony has discussed reasons for charging 30% commission fee on the PlayStation Store in a new interview.

For those unaware, Sony is currently facing a class-action lawsuit alleging it monopolized the market by restricting third-party games on its platform. Now, one of the executives has stated some reasons they charge a 30% fee on store purchases.

Sony Defends 30% Commission, Stating Supporting Game Developers on PS5 is Costly

During a new interview with The Game Business, the topic of Sony’s 30% comission fee on games sold via PlayStation Store was raised. It was revealed that they have 10,000 developers and publishers working with the company today, with 5 internal teams specifically focused on assisting them with dev kits, best-practice sharing, PR, marketing, and funding.

Sony states that maintaining this is “a big investment”, which is one of the reasons for charging this 30% fee.
