Star Wars: The Fate of the Old Republic received a surprise event at The Game Awards 2025, with no new details arriving since then. The director has stated that the game should arrive before 2030, but that doesn’t provide much information for players. Now, we have been informed who is funding Star Wars FOTOR.
Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic Receives Funding from GreaterThan Group
A Bloomberg report reveals that former NetEase executive Simon Zhu has announced the launch of his new company, GreaterThan Group, which has secured $100 million in funding. The titles under GTG’s belt include Star Wars: The Fate of the Old Republic, developed by Arcanaut Studios, led by industry veteran Casey Hudson. Hudson has brought on several former BioWare executives to assist with development.
Casey Hudson, the director, has shared some thoughts on Star Wars: The Fate of the Old Republic’s scale, approach, and use of AI. The developers aren’t looking to use AI, as Hudson finds it to be “creatively soulless”. The director has also stated that “bigger isn’t necessarily better”. The director isn’t interested in making the game hundreds of hours long; however, replayability will be kept in mind, with players getting to explore different storylines.
