Gamers May Get Refunds After Sony PlayStation Digital Store Lawsuit

Sony PlayStation players may be eligible for reimbursement following a preliminary settlement agreement approved by a judge in a class-action lawsuit regarding digital game purchases.

The Northern District of California recently approved this preliminary settlement against Sony. The class-action lawsuit, filed in 2023, accuses Sony of monopolizing the market by restricting third-party games on their platform.

Sony PlayStation Digital Game Purchase Settlement Reached

As part of the settlement, Sony is required to pay approximately $7.8 million to all in the United States who purchased specific digital games through the PlayStation Network (PSN) between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023. The settlement was officially approved on April 8. The Saveri Law Firm officially announced the settlement through a press release on April 29.

“The Court has preliminarily approved the proposed settlement between the Plaintiffs and Defendant (the “Settlement”). The proposed Settlement will provide for the payment of $7,850,000 (the “Settlement Amount”) to resolve Plaintiffs’ and Settlement Class Members’ claims against Defendant,” the press release reads.
