Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald Ports Planned For This Year, It’s Claimed

Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green were brought to Nintendo Switch systems earlier this year, marking the return of two fan-favorite games to modern hardware.

Given the positive reception, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that more classic Pokémon games could be on the way. However, Nintendo may be skipping a generation, as Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald are reportedly next in line—and could arrive later this year.

More Pokemon Ports Are On The Way

According to Shpeshal Nick on X, ports of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald are reportedly next in line. More interestingly, they may not be too far away, with September or October supposedly being the planned release window.

Beyond that, very little is known for now, although the previous ports give us some idea of what to expect.

If Nintendo follows the same approach as FireRed and LeafGreen, each game could cost around $20. Fans should also temper expectations for new content, as these would likely be straightforward ports designed to make the games playable on modern systems rather than full remakes.

If the report proves accurate, however, it would mean Nintendo is skipping Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal for now, jumping straight from Generation One’s remakes to Generation Three.

While some fans may be disappointed by that decision, plenty will be excited at the prospect of returning to Pokémon Emerald, arguably the definitive way to experience Generation Three. Emerald expanded on Ruby and Sapphire with more Double Battles, story changes and the addition of the Battle Frontier, making it one of the most beloved entries in the series.

Which version of Generation Three would you pick up if they’re ported to the Switch? Share your thoughts in the official Insider Gaming Discord Server.
