Pokémon Pokopia Has Taken Just Four Months to Set Nintendo Sales Record

The success of Pokémon Pokopia has led to a Nintendo record likely being smashed just four months into release, it’s suggested, fresh off the back of the first DLC content.

Released in March, Pokémon Pokopia has continued to grow in the months since, including with the release of a three-part Expansion Pass, with the first drop taking place this week.

The drop of the first piece of DLC, which included the Bubbly Basin area, came alongside the latest financial results from Nintendo, which provide further details on Pokopia’s success.

Pokémon Pokopia Has Likely Broken Sales Record

The latest sales figures for the title from April stand at 5.2 million worldwide, excluding Japan, a staggering figure for a new spin-off title, and it’s merely the tip of the iceberg.

The financial results do not cover the full period since release, as the title landed in March and therefore fell into Nintendo’s last fiscal year, but it’s an indication of wider success.

The reliable Joe Merrick, the man behind Serebii, estimates that, when you add in the sales numbers prior to the start of the new fiscal year and the sales numbers in Japan based on Famitsu, then Pokopia is “likely the best-selling Pokémon spin-off game of all-time in just four months of sale.”

A big caveat, however, is that the exact numbers are not known, but based on the numbers that have been revealed, it’s highly likely to be the case, and, as Merrick added in a follow-up, if Pokopia doesn’t boast that acclaim now, it will next quarter.

The numbers are also a further indication of the wider success of the Pokémon franchise in video games, with the sales numbers of Scarlet and Violet increasing to 28.46 million, while Sword and Shield has sold 27.26 million units.

Both already stood among the best-selling Pokémon titles of all time, standing only behind Red, Blue, and Green.
