The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to be a huge success for Nintendo, with the console maintaining strong sales more than a year after its launch. The original Switch was already an enormous success for the company, but the latest sales figures show that its successor is continuing to outperform it at a comparable stage of its lifecycle, with more than 23 million units now sold.
Nintendo has shared even more data surrounding the Switch 2’s performance in its latest financial report, painting a positive picture of the console’s ongoing momentum. Alongside hardware sales, the company has also provided updated figures for software sales and annual playing users, offering a broader look at how Nintendo’s ecosystem is performing.
First FY27 Financial Results For Nintendo Show Positive Sales Trend
Nintendo’s August 6 Financial Earnings Report has now been released, providing an update on the Switch 2’s performance during the first quarter of its FY27.
According to the latest figures, the Switch 2 has now sold 23.68 million units since its launch in June 2025, with 3.82 million consoles sold during the latest quarter alone.
While that’s still a substantial number, quarterly sales were down 34.4% year-on-year. However, that decline needs to be viewed in context, as the same period last year followed the Switch 2’s launch and benefited from the significant initial demand and hype surrounding the new console.
Nintendo says consumers are continuing to adopt the Switch 2, with new first-party software helping to drive sales. The company also highlighted that, despite entering its second year on the market, the console’s hardware performance remains favourable when compared to the original Nintendo Switch at a similar point in its lifecycle.
This is particularly notable given the price revisions introduced in Japan on May 25, with Nintendo stating that hardware sell-through has nevertheless remained solid.
The company’s annual playing user figures also remain comfortably above 100 million. Nintendo reports that the number of annual playing users has remained steady at around 130 million, covering the period from June 2025 through June 2026.
With the Switch 2 continuing to sell at a strong rate and Nintendo’s annual player base remaining enormous, the company appears to be in a healthy position heading further into FY27.
