A former Rockstar developer said he “would not be shocked at all” if GTA 6’s release date is delayed again.
GTA 6 is easily one of the most anticipated titles of all time, and players have been eagerly waiting for Rockstar to do their thing. The game has already been delayed twice, first from 2025 to May 2026 and now to November 2026. Since then, Take-Two has reaffirmed the latest release window multiple times, but another delay could be on the cards.
Former Rockstar Devs Say Another GTA 6 Release Delay Won’t Be Shocking
In a recent interview with Indy100, former Rockstar animator Mike York talked about the possibility of another delay in the release of GTA 6. He noted that, based on his experience working on GTA 5, Rockstar “could delay it again.” However, he clarified that since he is no longer employed by the company, he can’t speak with certainty about it.
York mentioned that Rockstar has the freedom to make whatever choices they want, and people will wait for the release of GTA 6 right now. The former animator stated that if we approach November and the final mission isn’t satisfactory or if there are still several bugs, the release of GTA 6 could be delayed by an additional six months if Rockstar decides it’s necessary. He concluded by stating that this wouldn’t be surprising news and that he believes another delay would not hurt the company.
Here’s what Mike York stated:
Personally after being there and working on GTA 5, I don’t currently work there so I can’t give a confidence based off that, but based on my previous experience, they could delay it again,” said York.
Straight up, they could delay it again. They can.
They can do whatever they want and people will wait right now, it doesn’t matter. If they need to do what they need to do, they’ll do it.
So if November comes around and they’re thinking ‘this final mission we have is still not looking very good and there are still a few bugs in this final mission’, they’ll push it six more months if they have to.
“I would not be shocked at all. I don’t think it would hurt them or anything.”
Players should note that, according to the latest announcement, GTA 6 is still slated to release on November 19.
