Bethesda Game Studios has revealed that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has secured four million players in less than a week. It wasn’t indicated how many of these players have accessed the game via Game Pass on PC or Xbox, but it’s an impressive figure nonetheless.
Oblivion Remastered was shadowdropped on April 21 after weeks of rumours, and it turned out to be more of a remake than a simple remaster. It has turned heads worldwide, twenty years after it first surfaced.
Milestone
Oblivion Remastered is a gargantuan success, and it can be argued that Bethesda Game Studios didn’t spend a dime on marketing. For a game to secure four million players in five days on a zeroed marketing budget is nothing if not purely indicative of the power of the IP.
The Elder Scrolls is a legendary series with millions of fans hungry for the next instalment. In many ways, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is a new title. For those who have never experienced Oblivion, this game offers hundreds of hours of entertainment, and if you have Game Pass, you’re not spending a penny to get it.
That’s such a phenomenal deal.
When The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was released on April 21, it skyrocketed up the charts on streaming and social platforms, topping sites like Twitch with effortless abandon. For franchise veterans, it was a homecoming event, and for those new to the game, a fresh world teeming with opportunity sat front and centre.
I’m now looking forward to what Bethesda Game Studios can do with Fallout 3 Remastered, which is the next title rumoured to be on the revitalisation slate. If Oblivion Remastered looks and feels this good, imagine how impressive Fallout 3 Remastered could be.
