The Xbox Game Dev Update event today doesn’t feature any new information on their next-gen console, Project Helix.
Towards the end of last month, it was revealed that Microsoft will host a Game Dev Update on May 7, where players will receive a “closer look at Project Helix.” However, it seems that wasn’t the case at all, and the new information regarding their next-gen console will instead arrive later this year.
Xbox Project Helix Event Only Features a Recap from GDC
The VP for Next Generation at Xbox, Jason Ronald, has confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that no new information about Project Helix is being revealed today. The Game Dev Update event will focus solely on a recap of announcements made earlier this year at the Game Developer Conference 2026 for those who were unable to attend. New details about Project Helix will be shared later this year; however, no date was provided.
Jason Ronald revealed quite a few details about the next-gen console at GDC 2026, and here’s what we know: The console will be powered by a custom AMD SOC, which has been co-designed for the next generation of DirectX, features next-gen Ray Tracing performance and capabilities, and brings GPU direct work graph execution.
It also comes with AMD FSR next, which is built for the next generation of Neural Rendering and ML upscaling. It also brings ML multi-frame generation and next-gen ray generation for RT and path tracing. Lastly, the console features Deep Texture compression with Neural Texture Compression and DirectStorage & Zstd. It was also revealed at the event that devs will receive alpha versions of the console in 2027.
In other news, the Xbox CEO has confirmed that the memory shortage will impact Project Helix pricing and availability. Additionally, Ronald has also clarified on first-party rumors.
