Nintendo’s lawsuit against Palworld is now limited to the older versions of the game.
It has been a longstanding legal battle between Nintendo and The Pokémon Company against Palworld. During this time, Nintendo acquired additional patents that could be used against Palworld. However, the latest development in the case reveals that Nintendo might not get much out of the lawsuit.
Nintendo’s Palworld Lawsuit is Limited to Older Versions of the Game
A new report from Gamesfray provides updates on the lawsuit between Nintendo and Palworld. The written pleadings and evidence have been submitted, and the next step involves presenting them to the court on October 1, 2026, with an opinion expected by November 9. Initially, all versions of Palworld were targeted, but following November 2025 amendments to the scope of claims made by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, the case is now limited to older versions of Palworld.
Furthermore, the reduced scope lowers the likelihood of success against any recent, current, or upcoming versions of Palworld, including the 1.0 update. Additionally, even if the company can successfully counter Pocketpair’s claims of invalidity and prove infringement, they may not receive adequate damages. The report indicates that the maximum potential gain for the company is JPY 5 million, which is approximately $30,000.
In other news, Palworld 1.0’s release date and other details were unveiled today at Summer Game Fest 2026. Here’s what you need to know. Additionally, Pocketpair has filed a trademark for Palworld Online in the United States and South Korea. What are your thoughts on Nintendo not getting much out of the Palworld lawsuit?
