Nintendo Isn’t Stopping Remakes After Zelda and Star Fox, It’s Claimed

It’s been a busy 2026 for Nintendo, currently culminating in the long-awaited release of the remake of 1998’s beloved The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It’s still only release day for the new version of Link’s classic adventure, but critical reception has been incredible right out of the gate.

Earlier in the year, Nintendo saw notable success with the release of Star Fox, the fully remade version of yet another beloved N64 title. Though not an immediate Game of the Year contender like Ocarina, Fox McCloud and crew still won over their fair share of new and returning fans, reportedly selling over a million copies as of September 2026.

According to reports, Nintendo likely isn’t done with the classic remakes for Switch 2.

More Remakes Are Likely on the Way from Nintendo

In an interview with Polygon, Nintendo’s Senior Vice President of Product Development and Publishing, Nate Bihldorff, seemed to imply that classic remakes will likely be a large part of Nintendo’s directive moving forward.

Bihldorff told Polygon, “I do think that new games and remakes both have a place in the Nintendo stable, of equal importance, to be honest. There are fans of every single IP that we have out there. Of course, having new games in those series is wonderful, and I look forward to them as much as anyone else does, but there’s also a deep satisfaction in revisiting games that were very, very special, like Ocarina of Time.”

Clearly, this quote reads as though Bihldorff is saying that Nintendo will surely (and obviously) continue making new entries into their beloved IP. Still, it’s interesting to see him mention new titles and remakes alike both being mainstays in the “Nintendo stable” moving forward.

Of course, it’s not too much of a surprise to learn that Nintendo seems to have other remakes in the cards in the near future, and we can assume the Switch 2 would be the release target for these new versions of their classic games. The question then becomes, “What’s next?”

If we can judge based on 2026, since Star Fox and Ocarina of Time both originally launched on the Nintendo 64, perhaps something else from the same console will be next. Super Mario 64 might make the most sense, though there are many other iconic and incredible first-party N64 games that would be worthy revisits too.

Bihldorff got into some more detail about Nintendo at large during his talk with Polygon, but ultimately, we’ll just have to wait and see which well of legendary video games Nintendo opts to dive into next. Mother fans, start crossing your fingers now.
