There’s been undeniable and palpable tension about the Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake. How do you capture the magic of a game nearly 30 years old? Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Review Embargo Lifted

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake doesn’t quite hit the almost-impossible review scores of the original title, but it’s very close and is comfortably the highest-rated game of 2026.
Nintendo‘s Remake currently sits on an eye-watering 96/100 on Metacritic based on 80 Nintendo Switch 2 reviews. This means it falls slightly short of the OG’s 99/100 score—meaning the N64 OOT retains its crown as the highest-rated game in history.

I don’t want to be THAT guy, but there’s always been a dark cloud over the 1998 Ocarina of Time Metacritic score. Because of a lack of historical data and other factors, the original’s Metacritic score is only based on 22 Critic Reviews, compared to the 80 reviews the 2026 version has received.
This might make the remake’s 96 score just as impressive in many ways. In any case, the Ocarina of Time Remake is now 2026’s best-reviewed game, beating out Sektori—which only has 10 reviews for its 93/100 score.
