Everyone is eagerly anticipating what’s to come in about two weeks, when Grand Theft Auto 6 finally hits the market after years of development. It’s going to be the biggest entertainment launch in human history, surpassing every movie, game, and album release to date, and it’s set to shatter records worldwide.
It was recently noticed that Rockstar Games and Take-Two might be preparing some kind of protective layer to ensure folks don’t have their eagerness soured by spoilers being posted online, even after GTA 6 has hit the market.
Will Rockstar Take Down GTA 6 Spoiler Videos?
It was recently noticed on the Rockstar Games support page that a certain policy concerning ‘copyrighted’ material might prevent creators and streamers from showcasing GTA 6 spoilers even after the game has launched.
The ‘Policy on posting copyrighted Rockstar Games material’ has a very clear-cut section on posting spoilers:
Spoilers: Posting video showing the ending of the game, an edited combination of cutscenes and/or in-game plot dialogue, or any other big reveal in the story. It’s ok to show cutscenes as part of a larger play-through (or in a narrated ‘Let’s Play’ type video) but isolated videos of the game’s cinematics will be removed.
If you are unsure if what you want to post is considered a spoiler, please contact [email protected] and describe exactly what scene you are wondering about and in what context the scene would appear.Â
This means that folks getting online to do their New Zealand trick to secure clips of critical story elements to post online could be reprimanded by Rockstar and Take-Two. And if there’s one thing we know, it’s that these guys are sh** hot when it comes to detecting and shutting down this kind of content.
It’s deliberately a very open-ended policy. There’s nothing to indicate when it would be considered ‘safe’ to upload this content, but you can, of course, go onto YouTube right now and search for GTA 5 spoilers and you’ll find plenty of videos from back in the day.
I took a good 30 seconds to search on the platform and found full GTA 5 ending sequences uploaded within days of the game coming out, detailing the ‘multi-choice split’ that served as that game’s finale.
But it’s worth stressing that the policy on the support page was last updated in January 2025, so it’s unlikely this was put together solely for the launch of GTA 6, and it’s more a blanket policy to cover any Rockstar Games title.
It’s not a full lock, though:
We’re happy for fans to upload footage of their gameplay – we love seeing machinima and clips from our games and even share some of it with our fans on the Rockstar Newswire and social media from time to time. However, we do have guidelines that we ask you to follow if you are going to post or stream on video-sharing sites.
What’s also off the table is in-game entertainment like the television shows you can watch in safehouses, anything that encourages cheating, exploits, or ‘tricks’ to make more money faster, anything promoting mods or ports, and, obviously, any pre-release footage.
Take this as a warning, budding creators… If you capture GTA 6 story moments to upload, you might find your content struck down by the experts at Take-Two and Rockstar.
