Nintendo Digital Sales Reach 60.7% of Software Revenue

Digital sales accounted for 60.7% of Nintendo’s dedicated platform software revenue from April through September 2026, up 6.2 percentage points.

This information comes directly from Nintendo’s new financial report. It also shows what share of Nintendo’s platform software revenue comes from digital sales and confirms that digital sales rose 60.5% year over year. Digital sales totaled ¥249.6 billion yen. That’s up from this time last year, when digital sales totaled ¥155.5 billion.

Nintendo Reports ¥249.6 Billion in Digital Sales

According to Nintendo’s reports, digital sales increased for several reasons. One reason is that some consoles include downloadable games, such as Mario Kart World, which Nintendo classifies as bundled software and counts as hardware sales.

Another reason for the increase in digital sales is the continued weakness of the Japanese Yen.

Note: Net sales from software bundled with hardware are entirely classified as hardware sales. As a result, although bundled software such as Mario Kart World is included in the number of software units sold, the corresponding revenue is not recognized as software sales or digital sales. Note: When calculating digital sales, sales of Nintendo software are recognized as gross sales, while sales of software released by other software publishers are recognized as net sales. For software released by other publishers, Nintendo recognizes sales commissions it receives under contracts with the software publishers or other parties as revenue.
