The often-rumored remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was recently revealed during the June Nintendo Direct presentation. Even though it’s scheduled to come out in 2026, only a teaser trailer was shown, leaving fans with more questions than answers, or at the very least, feeling frustrated and hoping they’d see more.
Now, an extended listing on the official Nintendo website confirms that the game will be a full-blown remake and promises a visual overhaul and more.
“The N64 classic, reborn as a full remake for Nintendo Switch 2. Experience Ocarina of Time with stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay,” the extended description reads. It was first noticed by eagle-eyed fans who checked the source code of the listing on Nintendo’s official shop, as can be seen in the GameXplain video below:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Still Needs a Release Date
The short teaser trailer revealed during the Nintendo Direct listed 2026 as the game’s release window. Nintendo has been steadily releasing at least one game per month, and this game has long been believed to be the holiday hit for this year.
Nintendo still needs a major release in November. Most developers are trying to steer clear of the juggernaut that is Grand Theft Auto 6. There is a port of Metaphor: ReFantazio, the 2024 JRPG, coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, but it could also be released in December.
Nintendo has some representation from the annual Zelda releases, and this is the franchise’s 40th anniversary, with everything pointing to the live-action movie coming in 2027 as the main event. Learn more about that movie, which recently moved up its release date, at this link.
Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates as more information becomes available. Be sure to check out everything announced during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct here.
