Dave Bautista Is Kratos in Prime Video’s God of War

Dave Bautista has officially been cast as Kratos in the Prime Video series adaptation of God of War. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion is taking over the role from Ryan Hurst, who sustained an injury while filming the show.

The injury would have required significant downtime, prompting the decision to bring in Bautista, best known for his role as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Variety made the news official. They also confirmed that production is expected to resume in the coming weeks and that all previous scenes featuring Ryan Hurst now need to be reshot.

Amazon already greenlit a second season of the show. Both seasons are expected to shoot back-to-back. Filming began in Vancouver, British Columbia, in February before Ryan Hurst suffered a torn bicep. The series is expected to follow the plotline of the two most recent God of War games. Callum Vinson is still set to play Atreus, the son of Kratos. It was previously reported that the role might also be recasted.

The cast also includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, and more. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates as more information becomes available.
