The Nintendo Switch 2 was previously advertised as possessing VRR capabilities for both handheld and docked use; however, it turns out this was a publishing error, and Nintendo has now apologized and reiterated that VRR is only applicable in handheld mode.
Variable Refresh Rate is a terrific graphical-enhancing feature. It’s a dynamic function allowing the TV’s refresh rate to better align with the content outputted from a game. In layman’s terms, it ensures smoother transitions and fewer instances of choppy gameplay. The Switch 2 has it, but it’s limited.
Nintendo Apologizes for VRR Publishing Error For Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 originally advertised VRR as a standout feature, alongside the potential for 120 FPS and 4K HDR.
However, the community noticed VRR wasn’t being marketed as frequently as it was. It wasn’t gone, but the breadth of its compatibility changed. The Switch 2 was only advertised as a console that could handle VRR in handheld mode.
Nintendo gave Nintendo Life a comment on the matter: “Nintendo Switch 2 supports VRR in handheld mode only. The incorrect information was initially published on the Nintendo Switch 2 website, and we apologise for the error.“
You’d think it would be the other way around, but this is how it is. The Switch 2 still supports VRR, you just make sure to have the console in its handheld form if you want to benefit.
Will this put you off buying the Nintendo Switch 2? How do you think the communication between Nintendo and potential Switch 2 consumers could have been improved since the console’s first Direct? Let us know here and through the Insider Gaming forum.
