Knyaz Brencis is the big bad guy in The Blood of Dawnwalker, Rebel Wolves’ debut vampire-themed RPG. He’s the chief vrakhir in Vale Sangora, and as such, he’s your ultimate target. Earlier in the game, you’re faced with an opportunity to defeat him, cutting down the game’s story immeasurably, but is it actually possible to beat Brencis when you first meet him?
It wouldn’t be the first time that a game has had a hidden ending that crops up very early. For instance, Ubisoft’s more modern Far Cry titles almost all have a secret ending written into them that you can find within just a few minutes.
Is The Blood of Dawnwalker like that?
Knyaz Brencis Can Be Defeated Within Minutes
When you’ve been ‘turned’ into a Dawnwalker by Knyaz Brencis down in the mines of Laslea, you’ll find that you wind up back in your village, now burning, with a unique opportunity to face off against the game’s most imposing boss there and then.
It might not seem like it, but this is your first opportunity to defeat the vrakhir who has laid waste to your family and your home.
The opening portion of the boss fight lands immediately, and as long as you’re good at timing your defensive strategy, you can block or dodge Brencis’ incoming attacks while also dishing out plenty of damage with your newfound vrakhir claws.
If you’re a capable enough fighter, you’ll force Brencis into a corner, and it’s at this point that things take a horrific turn. He summons you into his rendition of Hell, pulling you into an alternate dimension where he becomes Brencis, Grotesque Ascendant:

In this form, he’s the most powerful enemy in the game, and he will kill you in a single hit. It’s not impossible to defeat him at this stage, but the challenge is absolute. You’ll need to eliminate him without taking a single speck of damage.
That’s because the opening boss fight is one that you’re scripted to lose – that’s just the way it is. But of course, in The Blood of Dawnwalker, it’s all about choice, and if you want to take the other, more terrifying path, then so be it. Don’t let Brencis take a crumb of mercy from Coen and his newly discovered vrakhiri powers.
Oh, but here’s a warning.
Even if you don’t fight Knyaz Brencis in this form at the start of the game, you’ll need to defeat the Grotesque Ascendant variant whenever you do fight him later. Have fun!
