Nintendo Confirms Free Switch 2 Upgrades for 12 Games

Nintendo is bringing Switch 2 upgrades for 12 first-party games, including Super Mario Odyssey, Pokémon Scarlet, Pokémon Violet and more.

Free Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrades Arriving at Launch

Nintendo is providing free Switch 2 upgrades for select titles to enhance the player experience. Players can upgrade these games by connecting their Switch 2 to the internet and performing a system update. Once that is done, you can download the free updates for the 12 games, which include features like better graphics, performance, support for features like GameShare, and more. Moreover, all the upgrades will be available at launch, June 5, 2025.

ARMS

ARM will be optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs to provide better image quality. The frame rate has also been optimised for the Switch 2 display for a smoother experience (even when playing with three or more players). The game will also receive HDR support.

Big Brain Academy: Brain vs Brain

This title will only receive GameShare support and no performance or graphics upgrades. In Party Mode, players can join up to 4 people and share locally or online via GameChat.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will be optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVS to provide better image quality and offer HDR support. Regarding GameShare support, two people can play all the courses, and you can share locally or online via GameChat.

Game Builder Garage

Game Builder Garage will receive optimised visuals for the Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs. Players will also be able to use Joy-Con 2 mouse controls on the Switch 2.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have received the same updates. Like most, their image quality will be improved thanks to optimisation for the Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs. Also, players will have a smoother experience thanks to the improved frame rate.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Like others, Super Mario 3D World and Bowser’s Fury will receive optimisation for the Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs for better image quality. Their frame rate has been improved for smoother movement. Also, HDR support has been added, but only for Bowser’s Fury.

The title also features GameShare support, with up to four people able to play Super Mario 3D World together. Bowser’s Fury will allow two people to play together, one controlling Mario and the other controlling Bowser Jr. Players can also share locally or online via GameChat.

Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey will be optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs for better image quality and will also receive HDR support. GameShare support will allow two people to play together, one controlling Mario and the other controlling Cappy. Players will be able to share locally or online via GameChat.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will also receive a graphics update, thanks to optimisation for Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs. It will also receive HDR support.

Similar to the previous Zelda title, Link’s Awakening will be optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs for better image quality and will also receive HDR support.
