We’ve all done it: Left a device on charge even though it’s fully charged. This can have detrimental effects on the battery and its long-term status. The Nintendo Switch 2 is looking to curtail this issue with the 90% charge feature the device offers.
Batteries degrade over time, and there’s nothing you can do about it. However, you can reduce the rate at which it deteriorates. The Nintendo Switch 2 is a console we want to last a long time—especially for the price—and Nintendo has come up with a great solution.
“Stop Charging Around 90%” Feature Added to Nintendo Switch 2
I leave my phone to charge overnight. With the fast-charging plug I use, it probably needs a couple of hours for max charge, if that? Yet, I have it charging for hours while I sleep. This is one example of how not to look after a battery.
It’s been an issue in the past for Switch owners, but Switch 2 users should have it better.
You can see here—thanks to Culture Crave—that the Switch 2 has a curious setting. Deep within the System Settings is a feature labeled: “Stop Charging Around 90%.”
On closer inspection, the description reads: “Shortens the amount of time the system can be used while unplugged but can help reduce loss of battery capacity over time.“
