One of the characters in the Super Mario movie 3 has mentioned that the next installment should hit theatres by 2029.
The second installment to the Super Mario movie series was released last month and has already proven itself to be another hit for the franchise. Now, as players wait for the third installment in the series, it seems it could be another 3 years before it is released, according to one of the film’s voice actors.
Keegan-Michael Key Says Super Mario Movie 3 Arrives in 2029
During a new interview with ScreenRant at Super Mario Galaxy’s digital release, Keegan-Michael Key, who plays Toad, mentioned the third installment could be arriving in 2029. The Toad actor first spoke about how the team wants “to get everything right,” which includes all the details. The directors, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, “have a real passion” for this series.
Keegan-Michael Key adds that the director duo is “as passionate about these projects as the audience is”. Hence, the aim is to “get it right”. The Toad actor concluded, stating that he wants to “apologize”, but the Super Mario 3 movie will be “worth the wait” and that 2029 is “better than sometime.”
The Super Mario Galaxy movie was released on digital platforms on May 19 and will be released in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on June 16, 2026. The new movie features returning cast members, including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Keegan-Michael Key. Additionally, fans will also receive a behind-the-scenes look at the latest installment.
